About verlorenofgevonden.be
Verlorenofgevonden.be grew out of the successful verlorenofgevonden.nl, which has been reuniting items and (moped) bicycles with their rightful owners for over 10 years.
The Dutch website was created from the government's desire for a single central website where found items and collected bicycles are published publicly. Today, more than 80% of Dutch municipalities publish their found items on verlorenofgevonden.nl, allowing items to be searched any day or time (24/7) across all municipal boundaries.
Founders
To improve public services, the local Police Leuven, KU Leuven, the City of Leuven and vzw Velo took the initiative to create a single national website in Belgium. A place where (moped) bicycles and items are published and can easily be found. Antwerp has since joined and the platform has been further improved.
In close collaboration with other government partners, new organisations will regularly join as we work towards national coverage.

Vision
The website, underlying application and forms were developed with the aim of providing the highest possible quality of public service. Publishing collected (moped) bicycles and found items together gives citizens a quick overview from a central database. The search speed and user-friendliness set verlorenofgevonden.be apart from other websites. You will also find no banners, advertisements or promotional messages on this site.
All participating organisations share the belief that it should no longer matter to citizens which municipality or location something was lost or found. In the Netherlands this website is a great success. With more than 80% of Dutch municipalities participating, true national coverage has been achieved. This enables great results — such as returning 62% of (moped) bicycles and found items to their rightful owners! We are working hard to achieve the same success in Belgium.
